SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Lawrence Technological University Esports has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Team Liquid, one of the most recognized and successful professional esports organizations in the world. This joint effort marks a historic milestone not only for LTU, but for collegiate esports globally, as Lawrence Tech becomes the first university in the world to collaborate directly with Team Liquid.
Founded in 2000, Team Liquid has grown into a global esports powerhouse, competing at the highest levels across multiple titles including League of Legends, Valorant, CS2, Dota 2, and more. With championship success, world-class facilities, and a reputation for innovation, Team Liquid consistently ranks among the top esports organizations worldwide. Their reach extends beyond competition into content creation, analytics, education, and professional development, making them an ideal collaborator for a forward-thinking institution like Lawrence Tech.
This first-of-its-kind collaboration opens the door to a wide range of opportunities for LTU students and the esports program. Through this alliance, LTU will gain access to a variety of activations across academics, athletics, career services, and media, allowing students to engage with esports from both competitive and professional perspectives. LTU Esports will work directly with Team Liquid to develop customized activations that best align with the university's strengths and the goals of the program.
One of the most impactful benefits of the collaboration is the emphasis on career development and resume-building opportunities. Students who stand out within the program will gain experiences that translate directly to job interviews and professional pathways, offering networking opportunities at a level rarely available in collegiate esports. The collaboration also allows for potential expansion into additional Team Liquid activations over time, creating long-term growth opportunities for the program and its student-athletes.
LTU Esports Head Coach Benjamin Sobczyk emphasized the significance of this collaborative effort and its future potential:
"This TL collaboration is particularly special to me, as a long time TL fan. Five years ago I was a high school teacher and TL esports fan and now I get to work directly with them on the collegiate and high school ecosystem. I was blown away with some of their amazing ideas on how to connect with students and institutions across different modalities. They are hitting many angles so each institution, including ours, can use their strengths and resources alongside TL to build something unique, marketable and valuable. Our students and players should expect us to build out our career-focused opportunities including potential study abroad opportunities. I'm excited to see exactly where this kind of collaboration takes LTU esports, but also how it helps this entire young ecosystem grow. I can't wait to get to work!"
Team Liquid leadership shares this enthusiasm for the new venture. Menno Wielhouwer, Director of New Business Development at Team Liquid, added:
"At Team Liquid we're beyond excited to start contributing to the development of the North American esports ecosystem through collaborations like the one with Lawrence Technological University. By connecting professional esports to the collegiate ecosystem, we aim to help create sustainable pathways for the next generation of esports programs. We want to thank LTU for the fantastic collaboration so far and look forward to discovering what more we can do together. Go Blue Devils!"
By collaborating with a professional esports organization that consistently competes at the top of the global rankings, Lawrence Tech Esports continues to position itself as a leader in innovation, education, and student success. This historic collaboration with Team Liquid not only elevates LTU Esports but also sets a new standard for what is possible within collegiate esports worldwide.
